For decades, the Anchor Light served as a trusted beacon for the members and crew of the Lane Victory Maritime Center. It was our private logbook—a place where volunteers, veterans, and maritime enthusiasts shared updates, preserved memories, and stayed connected to the heart of the SS Lane Victory. Today, we are throwing open the hatches and charting a bold new course. We are officially bringing the Anchor Light out of the archives and transforming it into a public online blog for the entire world to enjoy.
The SS Lane Victory is more than just steel, rivets, and a massive triple-expansion steam engine; she is a living, breathing testament to the merchant mariners and naval armed guards who braved treacherous waters during WWII, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. By transitioning the Anchor Light into a digital space, our mission is to ensure that the stories trapped within these decks travel far beyond our berth in San Pedro, California.
Moving forward, this blog will be your portal to the past and a window into our future. Here is a look at what you can expect to find in upcoming issues:
Sea Stories & Lore: First-hand accounts, dramatic tales of survival, and everyday reflections of life at sea from the veterans who lived it.
History & Heritage: Deep dives into the engineering marvels of Victory ships and the pivotal historical events that shaped our world.
Volunteer Spotlights: A look behind the scenes at the incredible, dedicated crew of volunteers who spend their weekends keeping this national historic landmark alive and running.
The Ship’s Log: General updates on restoration progress, museum events, educational programs, and visiting hours.
Whether you are a seasoned maritime historian, a neighborhood local, or someone discovering the merchant marine for the very first time, we welcome you aboard. The Anchor Light is officially lit once again—and the voyage is just beginning.
