This way, the public can enjoy the ship as she serves in her role as a living historical monument, memorial space, and museum highlighting the crucial contributions and sacrifices of the U.S. Merchant Marine Service and the U.S. Naval Armed Guard in protecting this country and maintaining vital supply lines during times of war.
The S. S. Lane Victory is manned by volunteers, and in addition to its historical significance, provides a training site for fire, police, port security, and military personnel, as well as a center of historical education for maritime students, schools, scout groups and the general public.
